This is the time of year when a professional resume writer can change the course of his or her business destiny forever.
But the clock is ticking!

Adding to member successes, I believe 100% in the power of resume awards because they played an impactful role in my business! I won my first resume award from another organization in the mid-90s ‘Most Visually Distinctive Resume’. I leveraged that and it was a key piece in my hitting 6-figures way back then in year 1.5 of my business. I went on to win multiple TORIs, be elected to run the program, and so it goes…
Which brings me to another important point:
It’s never too early to try the waters. You could be delighted by a nomation (which according to our members is also worth its weight in gold and can be leveraged into more value than any other marketing you might ever do).
But, and here’s the kicker for EVERY potential TORI winner:
You can’t win if you don’t try!
You can’t know where you rank if you don’t put yourself out there.
You will NEVER reap the rewards of a TORI if you let ‘too busy’ and ‘next year’ become your ever-after mantra.
Am I being snotty for acting like that’s what you might do?
Nope!
Why?
Because each year we dangle low-hanging fruit called the TORIs which has proven to be the #1 least expensive yet most effective way to make your business boom, and each year only a handful of members (ok, let’s say 60 or so out of every professional resume writer around the world, which is kind of still only a handful in that perspective) gives it a try.
Sometimes I hear from people:
“I’m just not ready.”
Which is just an excuse for not being willing to put yourself out there.
Because let’s face it, you won’t know if you don’t try.
Frankly, being dead last is better than didn’t finish, which is far better than didn’t start.
But back to my point – the most common thing I hear from people is:
“I just didn’t have the time.”
If your mantra is, “I just don’t have the time”, then you are tying one arm behind your back for the next year.
During the year you’ll go through client hills and valleys, you’ll have to find time to market and build your funnel, you may struggle with fear about raising your prices. And even though you didn’t have the time, you’ll fill it with one hundred other things as they come up.
Folks, we can do anything we want.
Let me share my quick story:
I’m a busy gal. In the last year on top of two chronic pain diseases, a debilitating nerve injury that has kept me from sitting since 2014, five months in a boot for stress fractures, and battling a crippling spinal cord disease, I:
Ran CDI and created tons of rich lessons and materials which included 9 TORI winner guest speaker webinars, took 7 training programs and certifications, built up my private client list, went to PT 2x a week, practiced for and competed in an international hula dance competition, and wrote the new edition of Resumes for Dummies.
And it all pays off in keeping me a happy, productive, and confident person with a waiting list for my private consulting and a 90% year-over-year member retention rate in CDI.
Most people would say they didn’t have the time to do any of that stuff while working full time and having a family.
I call it:
Positive affirmations + positive self talk + repetition + blind unwavering faith = paradigm shift.
Last night I ran across a favorite meme that says, “Everything you want is on the other side of fear”.
Fear has lots of faces but it doesn’t have to hold you back.
I know not everyone can relate to my sort of super human go-getter story. Yet everyone knows the need to stop dodging self-care. So, here’s one you can probably more relate to:
A few years ago I landed in the hospital the first week of January with all my health challenges. When I left I said, “I’m going to change the things that are under my control that I claim I don’t have time for.” So, despite my chroninc pain diseases, my ongoing injury (that doesn’t allow sitting or strenuous exercise), my business, my hobbies, and some more training I was doing, I set out to make more time for self care. Within the first six months of that year I was up to walking 4-5 miles a day and had lost 50 pounds.
But it would have been easy to just take medications. To just keep my head down and say, “I don’t have the time”. That this is my life and I can’t help it.
This is your business!
This is your life!
You MUST find and make the time if you want it to be easier, happier, and better.
TORI registration is going to close before you know it. Three of the five months have already passed….
Will you put off your potential victory and the authority and accolades it could bring you another year?

This is not tough love. This is hope and motivation!
