In this episode we’re looking at the success profiles of $100K to $500K resume writers and/or career coaches who participated in our 2nd annual Critical Industry Analysis survey.
I’m sharing:
- Y2Y revenue and marketing outsourcing comparison.
- Total price of most common sale.
- Type of most common sale (packages or one-off services).
- Gross annual revenue breakdown.
- Top 5 marketing strategies utilized.
- Number of industry certifications held.
- Number of social media channels used 3-5 times/week.
- Years in practice.
- Full-time/part-time status.
- Overall success profile.

As you review, please know that there were some surprises that come with some caution:
Not everyone participates in surveys so while that data is valuable, it’s not a complete picture.
I know now to specifically ask some of my former clients/CDI members to participate in the survey instead of assuming they will. (Everyone is so busy, right?) For instance, it would be valuable to see the success profile data of a resume writer only (no coaching) with no subs at $700K as well as that of someone working with a team to hit the 7-figure mark.
Further, some of what we see in these findings seems to present the exact opposite of what we teach and consult on in CDI to ensure you have life balance, profit, and client success.
For example, lower price points in general, but also lower price points with subs likely means you need a huge client volume to be profitable. Whether using subs or not, a low price point often reflects in overdelivering and not profiting yourself or not leveraging the complete solutions that job seekers so truly need. The survey is anonymous so we can’t go back and get clarification. We can only go on 30 years of experience and knowing low rates and high revenue is usually a recipe for burnout, even with subs.
